We read a lot of picture books in our house. My girls are four and five (almost six!), so we’ve had the pleasure of rolling through a fair number of titles together the last few years. I also became an aunt for the first time last year! So I’ve had gift books and board books and color books and shape books on my mind again—and with Mother’s Day approaching, I thought it would be fun to put together a big list of recommended books for Baby’s First Library, in case you have a friend who’s expecting (or maybe you’re expecting yourself!) These titles range from trusty classics to artsy board books to gorgeous nature guides to emotional tear-jerkers, and everything in between. As always we are so grateful to our friends at Gathre; their mats always make for the coziest, most perfect reading spaces.

And now—here are some of our favorite books for baby’s first library!
