The back-to-school season is upon us. Are we the only ones who long for new Pink Pearl erasers every August? Stroll the aisles of notebooks and pencil cases we don’t actually need, just because it brings us joy? Really have to discipline ourselves to not purchase a new bookbag or multi-pack of markers?
We just looooove this stuff. There will be fresh school supplies in heaven, we’re sure of it.
But the thing that’s great is that although supplies are optional, continual learning shouldn’t be. Just because we’re no longer trying to memorize our locker code doesn’t mean we’ve given up on improving our minds and expanding our vision of the world. We absolutely yearn for new knowledge with as much enthusiasm as we do for new pencils.
One way we seek knowledge is by engaging in Gathre’s Book Club. All employees read the same book at the same time, and discuss it in weekly meetings. (Or, sometimes, we mix it up and read different books, then share what we’ve learned.) We take Masterclasses and Skillshare courses and keep ourselves growing and evolving. And we engage virtually and in person with thought groups to expand our understanding of the world around us.
Becoming the best version of ourselves is our jam. Potential? It’s not unreachable, if only we try.
So, may we say from experience: go back to school this Fall. Not just the kids, but you. It doesn’t have to cost a cent or be a formal commitment. The public library is there, just waiting to change your life. Make a list of topics that interest you, and check out some books. Schedule time to read, study, and be inspired. You’ll never regret investing in your own development. Impress yourself.
